Tips for a longer, healthier life from a 95-year-old
95-year-old Sally Froelich is one of 600 participants in the SuperAgers Family Study which aims to better understand the factors that slow aging, protect against age-related disease, and contribute to a long, healthy, happy life.
Here are some longevity secrets she shared with the Healthline team in a recent interview:
Find joy: Froelich says it's important to "do what you want to do and things that make you happy." This includes eating ice cream and delicious chocolate! (Her words, not mine.)
Take care of yourself: When you look good, you feel good. In that spirit, Froelich recommends doing your hair and nails — or caring about your physical appearance, whatever that means to you. "And be sure you have somebody that will tell you if you have a spot on you or [if] anything is off," she adds.
Think of aging as a good thing: Froelich feels lucky to be alive well into her 90s. This perspective, paired with her age, supports research that claims people with positive attitudes toward aging tend to live longer, healthier lives than those who have more negative views.
There might not be enough science to back up these tips. However, they're still great things to keep in mind as you age (in addition to the recommendations you may already know).
On that note, one observational study has identified healthy habits that — when practiced together and by age 40 — might add up to 24 years to your life! Some of these include:
  • being physically active
  • not smoking
  • managing stress
  • eating a healthy diet
  • prioritizing quality sleep
  • not regularly drinking alcohol excessively
  • maintaining positive social relationships

While vaginal dryness is often associated with menopause, other factors — such as childbirth, rigorous exercise, and excessive stress — can also cause this symptom. As you work with a doctor to find the right treatment, Bonafide's Revaree vaginal inserts, made with hyaluronic acid, might help you feel more comfortable in the meantime.
