When Treated By A Spine Doctor Houston Residents Do Not Risk Complications

By Mary Brooks

Pain is one of the most important ways in which the body signals that something is wrong. Unfortunately, the location where the pain is experienced is not necessarily the location of the root problem. Back pain, a common complaint, for example, can have many different causes. Physicians often find it very difficult to diagnose the cause of such pain and the only choice is to treat the patient symptomatically. When consulting a spine doctor Houston patients nevertheless often experience immediate relief.

Physicians that focus on backbone are called chiropractors. They certainly see many patients that complain of back pain but it is the backbone that is their main interest. They believe that many types of pain originate in a backbone where the vertebrae is out of alignment. The solution is to make sure that the backbone is perfectly aligned. Chiropractors are not always medical doctors and their field is officially viewed as alternative medicine.

A lot of patients see a chiropractor for back pain but practitioners also treat a host of other conditions. They have had enviable success in treating sports injuries. They also treat arthritic pain, neck pain, headaches and damaged tendons, amongst others. They do not profess chiropractic treatment to be the only option open to their patients and will actually refer patients to a medical doctor if the think it is in the best interest of the patient.

The cornerstone of chiropractic treatment is the belief that a spine that is out of alignment causes a chain of events that can hamper healing. When the backbone is not properly in alignment the central nervous system is compromised and subsequently the immune system cease to function normally. The solution is to straighten the backbone, with each vertebra in its correct place. The nervous system will recover and the immune system will function normally.

The treatment technique employed by the chiropractor will depend upon the nature and severity of the complaint. However, the aim is always to align the backbone. It may sometimes be necessary to physically manipulate each vertebra back into its place but very often the same result can be achieved with a massage or by the use of hot or cold compresses.

Many academical, empirical and even psychological studies have been conducted on the field of chiropractic treatment. The general consensus is that the treatment is highly effective. It is also very safe because chiropractors never employ invasive treatment techniques and they do jot use any drugs prior to, during or after treatment. Patients are therefore not exposed to unpleasant or potentially dangerous side effects.

Helping their patients to keep their spines in proper alignment is a very high priority for most chiropractors. The encourage their patients to take up low impact exercises such as walking or cycling, which strengthen the muscles and increase the flexibility of the body. Sleeping on a firm mattress is also important and patients learn the correct posture when walking or sitting down.

It comes as no surprise to learn that many patients prefer to consult a chiropractor first when they are in pain or when they feel unwell. Chiropractors enjoy a tremendously high rate of patient approval and satisfaction. It is no wonder that the popularity of chiropractic treatment has rocketed.
