| My all-time favorite comfort movie is "Julie & Julia." Obviously, Meryl Streep as Julia Child is a delight to watch, and the film makes me nostalgic of my semester abroad in Paris. In one scene, Julie (Amy Adams) ruins a beef bourguignon — she falls asleep with it in the oven (π΅π«), and it burns. That was devastating to watch because this classic French staple is so freaking good. Yes, it requires some effort and patience, but you know what they say: Good things come to those who wait! | Check out these stories before we get cooking: | | | | Bon appetit! If you don't want to include either, I'm pretty sure extra stock will be fine — the taste will just be a bit different from what you'd normally eat at a restaurant. But let me know if you have other ideas! And while we're on the topic of ditching certain ingredients, I normally skip adding bacon because I find it unnecessary and the dish is heavy enough. | We have to address the elephant in the room: No, this isn't the "healthiest" meal you can cook. But will it make you feel warm, cozy, and happy you made it? Absolutely. And at the end of the day, that's how food should leave you feeling. | BTW: Beef bourguignon develops more flavor over time, so make it a day ahead or freeze leftovers to eat when you're craving a hearty meal. | | | | One pot to rule them all | | | | | Crock-Pot Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven | I don't see the point in paying more than $100 for a Dutch oven — the ones that you find at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls are perfectly capable of doing everything you want a Dutch oven to accomplish! But if you'd prefer not to lug home a heavy pot, this option from Crock-Pot can be easily delivered to your home (and it's less than $60). | | Every product we recommend has gone through either Healthline's or Optum Store's vetting processes.
