USDA cites meat plants for animal treatment, food safety issues

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued its first-quarter report for the federal fiscal year and it includes some red marks for big meat plants regarding animal treatment. The National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) is poised to review Listeria monocytogenes control at retail outlets and consider mandatory features on the labels of processed, not-ready-to-eat products that appear as ready-to-eat.
