What We Can and Can't Control
We have absolutely no control over how much we weigh today. Actual weight is a result of past actions that cannot be changed. Too simple, isn't it? And still, how many hours are wasted on worries and regrets in response to the number of the scale in the world every day, people wanting their bodies to be different from how they really are. How much suffering arises from feelings of helplessness and guilt, with no impact whatsoever on actual weight? But we can take control of our actions - we can choose our mental, verbal and bodily actions wisely every day. We can make good plans, create time and energy for eating well and for exercise. We can think before we put food in our mouth. We can talk to ourselves and to others in a kind, loving way, accepting where we are right now, whether we like it or not. We can go buy delicious healthy food and eat in sufficient amounts that help us lose or maintain weight, as needed, and enjoy every bite. We can avoid foods that cause more trouble than fun. We can go out for a walk in the sunshine or in the rain, or do a gentle yoga session at home. This will not change the number the scale shows today, but letting go of the past, accepting present as it is, and making good plans for the future is like breathing in fresh air. Eating well just today, doing an easy workout just today will make us feel good TODAY, regardless how much we weigh. And if we keep going, one day the scale will show our happy weight.
