| | | The many ways nature can heal us | We all know from experience that letting the sun shine on your face or touching grass can be a natural mood booster. But did you know that spending time outside can help you breathe, sleep, and even see better, too? The health benefits of getting outdoors run deep!️ | And don't worry, if you live in a city, you can still tap into the healing power of nature. A 2015 study found that spending time in "urban green spaces" like parks and communal areas may be able to offer similar health-boosting effects. I lived on Main Street in a busy city for 3 years and sitting in local parks and outdoor coffee shops definitely helped to lift my mood. | Because today is Earth Day, we encourage you to step outside and enjoy the great outdoors, even if only for a few minutes. Here are some ways to connect with nature today: | - Practice mindfulness on a silent walk.
- Join a yoga class that meets outside.
- Sit on a bench or invite friends to hang out in a local park.
- Go for a hike.
- Try forest bathing.
- Sit by a lake, beach, or body of water.
- Listen to birdsong outside your home or apartment.
- Try community farming or gardening.
- Connect with the earth by lying down and grounding.
- Bike around your neighborhood, if it's safe to do so.
| Tell me: How do *you* plan to celebrate Earth Day? I'll be taking a walk around my block and sitting outside watching the birds eat from the feeders, including the one I review below. | | | | | | |
| | Feed the birds | | | | | Twinkle Star Wild Bird Feeder | If you're looking for a peaceful activity, I highly recommend drinking your morning cup of caffeine while bird-watching. I bought this cute lighthouse-shaped feeder about a year ago, and it's been an absolute joy witnessing birds come to hang out and grab food throughout the day. It keeps my indoor cat entertained, too! | | Every product we recommend has gone through either Healthline's or Optum Store's vetting processes.
