Day 4: How to enroll in Medicare Advantage

You have a few different options throughout the year.

Your initial enrollment period: This is a 7-month enrollment period surrounding your 65th birthday. The 3 months before your birth month, your birth month, and the 3 months following your birth month. Reminder: If your birthday falls on the first of the month, your initial enrollment period starts 4 months before you turn 65 and ends 2 months after the month you turn 65.
Medicare annual open enrollment period: This occurs from October 15 to December 7 each year.
General enrollment period: This occurs from January 1 to March 31 each year.
A special enrollment period: Certain events in your life make you eligible to enroll in Medicare Advantage outside of the usual enrollment periods.
Use a plan finder tool, such as HelloMedicare or the one offered on medicare.gov.
Consider working with a licensed insurance agency such as HelloMedicare to find individualized support.
Ask a family member or close friend to join you for a brainstorming session. Getting a second opinion can help you address concerns you may not have considered.
